Dr Douglas C. Shook
Douglas C. Shook, MD, FASE received his medical degree at Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine and is board certified in Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology and Advance Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE). Dr Shook is the current Deputy Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He previously served as the Division Chief for Cardiac Anesthesia and as the inaugural Program Director for the ACGME Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship. He is an Oral Board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology and question writer for the NBE. He is the Secretary/Treasurer for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA). Dr Shook is also the American Society of Echocardiography Perioperative Echocardiography Council Chair-Elect. Previously Dr Shook served on the Board of Directors for the SCA, Co-Directed SCA Echo Week, and co-developed the SCA Kaplan Leadership Development Award to promote the development and education of cardiac anesthesiologists as academic leaders. His professional and research interests include peri-procedural imaging, structural heart intervention, and patient safety and quality. Many of Dr Shook’s ongoing efforts involve developing relationships across specialties and creating collaborative projects.
